50 Years of Chinese Martial Arts and Qigong Experience by Dan Vercammen

Our institute originated in 1990 as the fruit of the collaboration of Dr. Dan KJ Vercammen and An Woestenborghs. Its purpose was to offer high quality courses on Chinese Taoist Culture, based on Vercammen’s scientific research and authentic practice, transmitted by the old generations of the practices that we teach.

After 35 years “in the business” it is time to evaluate what we have been doing up till now and how things have evolved in the world since then.

We also want to give an insight in Dan Vercammen’s 50 years of Chinese Martial Arts practice and his 45 years of scientific research.

Dan will tell anecdotes from his martial arts life, talk about his motivations and realizations and share his view on the future of Chinese Martial Arts (CMA), Taoism, and Chinese Culture in general.

But, of course, we are also going to practice martial arts and qigong. On this occasion, we will focus especially on those practices we usually don’t teach, such as Nanquan or Southern Chinese Martial Arts (which was the first thing Vercammen started teaching in the early 1987s) and Wuxigong or the Practice of the Five Breathings, of which he became the first foreign master. Moving is one thing, but relaxation and quietude need to be included in one’s practice to obtain the best results, and so, we’ll start with this on the first day and continue to do this the next two days.
