About the event

Baguazhang Liang style; Grandmaster Li Ziming

28 en 29 September 2024

Master Li Ziming was a famous and skilled practitioner of Liang Style Baguazhang. Master Li introduced Dan KJ Vercammen and the late Master of Taoist Arts An Woestenborghs to Liang Style Baguazhang. One of the important parts of Baguazhang practice is doing drills (single movements). These serve the purpose of teaching you how to move while performing attacks and defensive moves. Walking the circle and spiraling movements are equally important. In these workshops we teach you all of these, as well as some martial applications with partners.

Grandmaster Li Ziming was a very versatile man, a calligrapher, painter and also master of the martial arts and best known for Baguazhang.

One of the main characteristics of the Internal Martial Art Baguazhang, the Palm Techniques of the Eight Trigrams, is the moving in circles and spirals. However, this is only part of the practice. This 19th century martial art also contains straight movements and drills. In this workshop on the Liang Style of Baguazhang we drill eight of these so-called straight techniques and learn their martial applications. At the end of the workshop we combine the techniques to form a short Baguazhang set. The workshop is suitable for beginners who want to get acquainted with Baguazhang and for more advanced students who have already some knowledge (or studied other sets of eight movements with us before). We also share background information on the principles of the practice.
